New Mobile Advertising for January Numbers
Tue Feb, 2011 by Derek Mehraban
Millennial Media’s newest monthly mobile report is out and Android is still the big winner. Millennial’s advertisements reach 63 million users, or 81% of mobile users in the United States. 54% of the advertising impressions for Millennial Media were rendered on an Android based device. That number is an increase of 8% over the previous month. Apple’s iOS accounted for 28% of the impressions, a loss of 4%. The other 4% of Android’s gain was taken from Research in Motion’s still plummeting market share, now at 14%.
The good news for Apple is the growth in iPad advertisement requests. 43% more requests were sent by iPads than had been requested the previous month. Android’s growth in requests was 32% whereas iPhone advertising requests grew by 48%.
The market share fight is turning into a dogfight between Android and Apple. Growth in iPad sales (which, for now, is the leader in tablets over Android based tablets) and the Verizon iPhone will make this an interesting race for digital marketers to watch in the coming months.
