LinkedIn Reaches 100 Million Users
Tue Mar, 2011 by Derek Mehraban
LinkedIn has announced it now has 100 million users. While only the size of a fraction of Facebook, LinkedIn has a different user base that makes it a valuable platform for marketers.
A social network for business minded users should be enough of a niche to be valuable, but there are some other differences than can make it useful for marketers. 56% of LinkedIn’s users are not in the US. The fastest areas of growth for LinkedIn are in Brazil, Mexico, India and France. LinkedIn users are business minded and most of the activity on LinkedIn occurs during the work day. Most of the mobile traffic on LinkedIn peaks about 8 PM. While some products being marketed will not profit from a LinkedIn presence, some will because of the different types of people on LinkedIn.
In October 2010 LinkedIn had 50 million users, so hitting the 100 million user mark this quickly is quite the story.
