How to become a social media success

Tue Oct, 2012 by

We’ve all heard those fanciful stories of relatively unknown people who manage to garner internet fame through chance happenings, but is it really that unrealistic? No, no its not.  All of these social media success stories have certain characteristics in common, and while no one can guarantee that following their example will make you famous or take you to Hollywood, they may help you at the very least gain a modest following.  So here are five simple steps that have helped others reach internet notoriety:

1. Keep it Focused
Decide what your theme is and stick to it. Whether you’re going to only post photos and stories about tattoos on Twitter or blog about fashion you need to make what you’re sharing clear and focused. This includes choosing a relevant and simple username or title. It’s pretty obvious whose Twitter handle is @CocaCola and what you’ll find on their page.

2. Use Familiar Social Platforms
Choose social networks that best suits your content and audience, while making sure they’re ones people are familiar with. This ensures people will be able to find you and navigate through your content easily.

3. Share Fun and Interesting Content
This may seem obvious, but you need to share interesting content that goes along with your theme. Make it fun and when possible relate it to current trends and pop culture. This can be as easy as taking a trending hashtag and making it relevant to you in a tweet.

4. Promote Audience Participation
Give people the opportunity to submit content to your network, make suggestions, and start conversations. Make your content easy for them to share on their networks, too.

5. Don’t Forget to be Involved
Social media and digital marketing are meant to be social, so get involved with people within the networks you’re using. Don’t just sit around and expect people to find you. You shouldn’t be afraid to comment and share content and follow users when they are relevant to your theme and content.

Good luck and remember to have fun with it!
