Google TV Updates YouTube App
Mon Feb, 2012 by Derek Mehraban
YouTube is the new television but until the new app was released Google TV did not offer the best YouTube experience. The new app allows Google TV users to access YouTube’s new channels format, which will help it compete with cable and satellite television providers.
There is still a content problem, but more and more online services are acquiring content offered on traditional TV sets as well as some exclusive content, see Netflix’s new Lillyhammer series. People are becoming more and more accustomed to a world after cord cutting. While cord cutting has been slower than anticipated it stands to reason that the movement will pick up speed as digital providers become better at delivering the content people want. This is precisely what the new YouTube app for Google TV is designed to do.
Widespread adoption of Google TV would be huge for the digital marketing agency. Not only should firms have their own branded content on the provider, which will benefit from a larger viewer base, but brands should also be advertising within YouTube. The ads need not be video as a small advertising overlay on the videos is possible and quite profitable.
