Most of the attention over Google’s development of Near Field Communications has been about a mobile payments system. Google has announced a partnership with Ingenico to develop a NFC enabled coupon system where customers will receive updates if they are inside the space of a vendor that cooperates with the program.
Daily deals are huge for digital marketing right now. This development will offer a new type of discount, because instead of receiving an email in the morning a customer will receive notification of deals immediately upon entering a storefront. This will require marketers to focus on brand building and maintenance to draw people into certain stores. This will also help marketers because the ads of those differences will require more creative inputs and marketing expertise instead of just listing the specific deal, which is in itself a self creating content.
