Firefox Remains the Browser to Beat
Wed Mar, 2011 by Derek Mehraban
Firefox 4 was just released and within 24 hours it had been downloaded nearly 7 million times. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 only barely topped 2 million downloads in the same amount of time.
Microsoft will claim Internet Explorer is the most popular browser in the world, but that is a measure of possession and not actual use. The numbers from the latest release show a clear preference and enthusiasm for Firefox. In the world of browser optimization this matters. Marketers must still look to Firefox users as the dominant target.
This new Firefox also comes with new features, some of which are not shared across the other browsers available: full CSS3 and HTML5 support; syncing across multiple devices; an ability to group tabs; and full drag and drop capability.
