Chirpify Allows Selling Via Twitter

February 16th, 2012 by Derek Mehraban

Chirpify is a new startup that is designed to allow brands and people with a PayPal account to sell and buy goods through Twitter. Chirpify monitors Twitter feeds of members and when the “@brand Buy” sequence is entered then Chirpify will transfer the appropriate amount of money across accounts. It is a new venture, so there are not yet many participating vendors (at this moment PowerBar is the only notable vendor) but more should be joining.

One of the problems plaguing Twitter has been its lack of monetization. A great tool for education and even engagement, Twitter lacked an ability to actually sell things. “Conversion” takes on a new level of meaning when it comes to selling products via Twitter. Chirpify will make it easier to sell things as it reduces barriers by eliminating the need to jump into a new app (a browser most likely) to complete the sale. The main benefit will be when selling to customers on mobile devices because of the reluctance many have of opening a mobile browser to complete a sale.

The digital marketing agency with clients catering to customers on mobile devices or to customers that are likely to forget or change their minds about a purchase will need to adopt Chirpify. By reducing the work and time between Tweets about a product and an ability to sale those products, more sales will happen.
