Content is at the heart of all things digital and without content the internet would not exist. Likewise, regularly updated content is at the heart of your online presence, and without it you don’t exist.
Why? Because stagnant websites and blogs don’t rank well in search, and social profiles without posts have almost no way of gaining followers. Therefore even though you are out there on the internet, no one will stumble upon you aren’t pushing out new content. Blogs, websites and social media all feed each other; your interactive marketing is a turbine and content is its fuel.
Don’t worry! This doesn’t mean you need to dedicate days to penning pages for your website. Here are five ways fun and easy ways to generate new content:
Today the creation and sharing of videos couldn’t be easier. Who ever thought you would carry a quality video camera with you at all times right on your phone? Well, you do, so use it! Every business and organization has worthwhile content to share via video. Try interviewing someone at your company or an expert in your field. If you have products, show how they work. You could also do video testimonials about your product or service, these can be very powerful! Check out a cool new app called Vine allowing users to upload and share six-second videos. It is the Pinterest of video, and it is growing quickly. Think six seconds is too short? Remember the online attention span is less than 10 seconds!
Pictures are another fun, easy and captivating piece of content you can create with right with your phone.
Instagram (free) and Hipstamatic ($1.99) are two great options to try. Both are easy and fun ways to transform your picture into a piece of art and share directly to Facebook and Twitter. My friend, owner and lead designer for Loup Charmant, shared this image during her daily routine showing how she is creating beautiful buttons. This simple act gives her instant credibility as a fashionista. Start snapping some pix!
If you are a chatty Kathy, then podcasts might be your thing. Podcast are easy to create and distribute. Services such as Blog Talk Radio, Spreaker and Podbean make recording easy and integrate directly with the iTunes Store. The iTunes Store will get your message out to masses, but you can also put your podcast on your website and link to it from your blog and social pages.
4. Curated Content
Curated content is a perfect way to portray yourself or your business as an expert. In todays world of endless content, there is no reason not to leverage great existing information. Get a steady flow of information on topics of your choice the “old fashioned” way with RSS feeds. I like to use Google Reader because I can easily follow both my subscriptions and hashtags too. To add a hashtag to your RSS reader simply subscribe to “http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=%23hashtag” and replace “hashtag” with the actual one you want to follow. I also love apps like Pulse, Flipboard and Google Currents which allow you to curate and customize your news feed. With any of these options you can share great tid-bits directly to Facebook or Twitter. Just add a comment of brilliance when you share!
Seemingly everybody loves an infographic. You can easily find them by searching Google or you can create your own pretty easily with infogr.am. Another service called Visual.ly which allows for infographic creation, also has a library of nearly 30,000 infographics to browse and share. Whether you create new or share existing, if you think it is interesting so will others.
So there you go … five fun ways to quickly and easily create content to boost your digital marketing efforts! If you do one of these a week, I am sure you will notice a difference in your traffic and brand following. Good luck!
